Panga Panga (Millettia stuhlmannii) has a very dark brown with black streak Heartwood. Panga Panga-wood becomes increasingly darker by the drying process and the influence of sunlight. This durable wood comes from a 60 to 65 Feet high tree, with a diameter of 20-24 inches.
Panga Panga is very similar in working properties to Wenge; though on average it tends to have a slightly lighter density and lower strength properties than Wenge. The many uses of Panga Panga are parquet and strip flooring, window and door frames, wall paneling, stairs and steps and woodturning. Sculptors like to use it and solid-wood and veneer is applied by the furniture-industry.
The Panga Panga tree grows mainly on the east coast of Kenya and Mozambique and near the lakes of Tanzania.
