Bolivian Rosewood - (Machaerium schleroxylon) - also know as Morado ,Bolivian Rosewood and Santos Rosewood is an exotic and imported hardwood that is strikingly beautiful. It is sold as a substitute for Brazilian Rosewood (Dalbergia nigra) and it is very difficult to tell the two apart.
The wood has color variations from chocolate or violet-brown to violet streaked with black, often streaked with golden-brown. The grain is straight, sometimes wavy. The texture is medium to coarse and the wood is oily to the touch with a walnut like scent. Takes a beautiful natural polish.
This wood is from Central and South America. The machinery dust from this species can cause severe skin irritation.
I do have a section of Morado which was sold to me under that name it is the same wood as Bolivian Rosewood but is distinctly different in its look. Because of this I've left them on separate pages.
