My first woodworking experience was in Junior High when I took a shop class with friends. To me it was just a class to get through. I did however turn a bowl, which I still have, but it was the scariest thing I had ever done at that age.
It wasn't till around the year 1998 that I came across a pile of church pews that had been removed from service that I thought I had an interest in woodworking.
I purchase a surface planner to dress up and remove the finish of the pews, a second hand radial arm saw and a few hand tools I start building bookcases, benches, beds and tables for friends and family. Unlike the Junior High years I found that I had knack for sticking wood together.
Since then I've acquired all my knowledge from many hours of reading and just plain trial and error. Over the years I've built many projects, some small, some large, but I found what I really love is spinning wood.
I purchased a 14" jet and turn out bowl after bowl, vases and hollow turnings. After a year I decided the jet was a little small so I purchased a Oneway 2436 and really started turning. I usually turn everyday and have sold over 7,000 bowls through retail and internet sales and shipped to every corner of the planet. Each bowl I produce is signed, dated and given its own serial number on the bottom. I spend most of my time now turning wood and it never gets old!
I have since 2013 been turning full time and the business has evolved into mainly turning crochet hooks and yarn bowls. to date I've turned over 5,000 crochet hooks.
I have a great respect and love of wood, if you'd look into my shop and storage buildings and see over 100 different species of wood I have you'd understand, You got to love the stuff to keep this much wood around!
