CEYLON EBONY - (Diospyros ebenum) also known as East Indian Ebony and Indian Ebony native to Southeast Asia. It grows from 50-80 feet tall and 1-2 feet in trunk diameter.
Heartwood is a jet black, sometimes with grey or dark brown streaks. Pale yellow sapwood is clearly visible from heartwood.
Common uses are Inlay, carving, musical instrument parts (piano keys, bridges, nuts, etc.), and turned objects.
