This beautiful hand turned crochet hook is made from a mixture of Helichrysum, or Straw Flowers (yellow, maroon and some white) cast in Clear resin with your choice of exotic wood ends. The hooks are shaped with a larger handle to relieve stress on the hand and wrist when crocheting. They also have an Ergonomic shape that fits nicely in the hand.

Because this hook is handcrafted there will be variation in appearance, grain, size and color. While there are slight variation the basic Ergonomic shape is maintained. No two handcrafted hooks will be the same!

Straw Flowers are part of a flower group known as "everlasting flowers." The flowers in this group, which retain their color after drying, have been used for centuries in flower arrangements that last for years. Yellow, orange, red, pink, burgundy, white or purple can be found in straw flowers and, like all everlasting flowers, the colors will remain vivid after drying.

I wanted to work with my hook for a few weeks before I wrote a review because these are not cheap. Business-y stuff. Ordering was a breeze once I was done agonizing over the many beautiful choices. I absolutely loved how customizable these hooks are. I received my hook well within the shipping times given. Now onto reviewing the hook itself. I chose mixed straw flowers and cocobolo wood. Visually this hook is stunning. I definitely feel like I am using a piece of art to create fiber art! Using beautiful tools really feeds my creative soul. My hook is all wood and I know some people are concerned that yarn just doesn't glide as well over wood as it does over metal. My yarn glides over this wood like buttah! As smoothly as over a Clover or a Furls. No friction at all. The handle is super comfy. I'm making an item with rows upon rows of herringbone stitches and my hand doesn't get fatigued. I did choose to have the size on the hook. I wish it was engraved into the wood instead of the resin. My H is already starting to rub off as it's right where my thumb sits. These next two things really are crochet style issues not really problems with hook. I would prefer that the notch in the hook where the yarn is grabbed was a little deeper. I'm finding that it has a tendency to slip off if I don't hold it at just the right angle. Also, I wish I had chosen the size with the longer throat. I didn't realize the shorter throat would be an issue for me so when I get another Nelsonwood hook I will be sure to get the longer size. And I WILL be getting another hook! This is the best hook I have ever had and I'm already wishing I had a 3.25, a 4, a 5 ,a 6 and an 8!! Is my husband reading this? Hint! Hint! Get one! You won't be disappointed!
