This page was a quick addition to the site. I have not had any
opportunities to harvest my own burls but I have always had my eye out for the chance.
Well I finally found one here in Texas and it was a beauty. A Post Oak and the
burl measured
in at 30" x 30". It did curve around the tree so I ended up with a 22" x 22"
burl which worked real nice with the lathe. I got 4 bowls from the main burl and
13 smaller bowls from the "off fall" (left over pieces). I should have some of
the smaller bowls ready for sale in 3-4 weeks (mid March of 2009) with the
larger bowl it will take a lest a year to dry. And to top it off it was the
perfect day to harvest, 30 degrees and the big red ant colony that was under the
bark just below it, where slow moving!
I hope to add more burls to this page in the future so check
back often.
The tree was not harmed in the remove of the burl, It was
sealed after the burl was removed.
