          AFZELIA BURL
Afzelia is a genus in the subfamily Caesalpinioideae of the family Fabaceae (legumes). This beautiful wood grows in both Africa and South East Asia. Most of the burl comes from Southeast Asia.
The heartwood is a mid-reddish brown. The sap wood is white to a yellowish white. Afzelia is a medium hardness and a fairly heavy at 51 pounds per cubic foot.
This is one of my favorite turning woods. Cuts and polishes beautifully.

All these bowls below are of Afzelia Burl. The pictures after the raw Afzeliz blocks are not burl.

Raw Afzelia Burl first one (first three pictures) weighed in at 68 pounds the second one (last two pictures) weighed 44 pounds. They are sealed in wax so they appear a little dark.
